BECOMING A NUTRITION COACH
My journey towards becoming a nutrition coach began with a lifelong passion for health and wellness. From a young age, I had an innate curiosity about how to maintain good health, yet there were no immediate role models or mentors in my vicinity to guide me. My intuitive exploration of healthy living led me to follow any advice I received, but it wasn't until I realized the depth of my interest that I considered it as a potential career path.
While I initially pursued studies in finance due to external influences and my proficiency in mathematics, I found myself lacking genuine enthusiasm for this field. The educational system in Ukraine, where I resided at the time, was more theoretical than practical. After completing my degree in finance and risk management, I found myself at a crossroads, unsure of how to apply my university knowledge effectively.
I embarked on a diverse professional journey, initially working as a trader, which proved to be excessively stressful for my personality. Later, I transitioned to the field of IT, where I worked as a marketing specialist, mainly focused on the education sector. However, after four years, I realized that my true passion lay in promoting health and wellness, and the demands of the education field left me feeling burnt out. I decided to take a break from my career and devoted myself to studying nutrition.
A Passion Turned Profession
My path was not always clear, as I initially pursued fields like finance and IT due to a lack of proper career guidance. It was a biology lesson that ignited my passion when we delved into hormones and their role in our bodies, reminding me of what truly interested me.
After obtaining a degree in finance and risk management, I realized I wanted more practical knowledge and a career that resonated with my passion. So, I decided to transition into the world of nutrition. I embarked on a rigorous educational journey, completing courses led by esteemed experts in the field, covering an array of topics from dietetics to sports nutrition and everything in between.
This journey led me to a profound understanding of the vital roles food plays in our lives, the psychology of eating, and the intricate mechanisms governing metabolism, gastrointestinal health, and appetite. I explored macronutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and learned to balance them effectively in a healthy diet.
